Biographie

Djamila Polo is an independent dancer and choreographer based between Wuppertal and Luxembourg. Trained in dance, improvisation, and performance in Freiburg im Breisgau, she obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Dance from the Folkwang University of the Arts in 2021, before joining the Folkwang Tanzstudio company for three years. Parallel to her work as a performer, she develops her own choreographic projects, which have been presented at numerous international festivals, notably in France, Poland, Hungary, Germany, and Luxembourg. Her work has received several awards, including at the Solo-Duo Festival, where she was granted the prizes for Best Solo Newcomer, Best Duo, as well as multiple Audience Awards. As a performer, she has danced in pieces by Pina Bausch, Boris Charmatz, Henrietta Horn, Stephanie Lake, Thusnelda Mercy, Jill Crovisier, and Renate Graziadei. She is also a member of the interdisciplinary collective Entretemps (now Ensemble SOL), with which she regularly performs. Her artistic approach explores the dimensions of the absurd, the grotesque, and the bizarre in human nature, which she examines through an expressive and distinctive physicality.
